About Us

What’s the Olympic Awareness Network?
Purpose: Debate, Action, Accountability:  to engage in debate with fellow Canadians about the real environmental, social, economic, human costs of the Olympic movement; to act in the form of public demonstrations and discussion sessions; to hold people and organizations accountable for misleading and misinforming Canadian taxpayers.
Short-term Goal: To create awareness in the Halifax area about the realities of the Olympics in Vancouver through public demonstrations and simply going to the streets to talk to citizens in Halifax and hand out literature.
Medium-term Goal: To create awareness in Canada about the corporatization of the biggest sporting event in the world and to expose the facade of peace and harmony through sport created and marketed by IOC and its corporate sponsors.  Every 2 years the corporate circus takes place in some part of the world, but the construction and over-development never stops – and neither do we.
Long-term Goal:  To bring citizens from past, present and future host cities together to voice their concerns and exchange information and experiences.   To form a national or international Olympic Inquiry Commission to investigate the crimes committed by corporations, the IOC, and host governments in the past, present and future.  Since the 1980s, almost every Olympic Games has gone over budget and the millions of dollars of debt have been left to the taxpayers.  The unethical by-laws created by governments have given police the right to displace homeless people.  This is just the tip of the iceberg.  Stay tuned for more developments.
